Understanding FSSAI License and Registration: Guide for Food Business Operators
As per the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), every individual or business involved in the food industry must obtain a license or registration. Put simply, if you deal with any food items, you are required to have an FSSAI registration or license.
Types of FSSAI License/Registration:
- Registration: Small food business operators with an annual gross turnover below 12 lakhs do not require an FSSAI license but must obtain FSSAI registration.
- State License: Generally applicable to medium food business operators with an annual gross turnover between 12 lakhs and 20 Cr.
- Central License: Large business operators are required to obtain a central license.
Documents
needed to apply for a new FSSAI License/Registration:
For Registration Certificate:
- Form A (Generated after submitting all the necessary documents)
- Photograph of the Food Business Operator
- Identity Proof (e.g., Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, PAN Card, etc.)
- Trade License
For State License:
- Form B (Generated after submitting all the necessary documents)
- Identity Proof (e.g., Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, PAN Card, etc.)
- Trade License
- Proof of Possession of premises (e.g., Sale Deed, Rent Agreement, Electricity Bill, etc.)
- Food Safety Management System Plan or Certificate (FSMS) (to be provided on the FBO/Firm/Company's letterhead)
- Partnership Deed/Affidavit of Proprietorship/Memorandum and Articles of Association, confirming the firm's constitution (for MOA - Three pages to be uploaded)
For
Central License:
- Ministry of Commerce Certificate for 100% EOU
- Supporting documentary proof for turnover
- NOC/PA document issued by FSSAI (If multiple documents, merge them into one before uploading)
- IE code document issued by DGFT
- Declaration form
